Summer Games | Local Heroes - Foyer Exhibit Opening In-Person

The Community Library and Jeanne Rodger Lane Center for Regional History are hosting a reception to honor the achievements of local athletes who participated in the Olympic Summer Games. "Summer Games | Local Heroes" on display in the Library's Foyer from July 6 through Labor Day, will feature artifacts and memorabilia from 10 Olympians connected to the Wood River Valley. Light refreshments will be served at the opening reception, with comments from Library staff ... and some surprise guests from among the athletes!

From Muffy Davis's gold medal, to Greg Randolph's red, white, and blue road bike, to a photograph of the "game changing" Fosbury Flop, and much more, the exhibit features artifacts from the following Olympic athletes:

  • Muffy Davis - Cycling 
  • Dick Fosbury - Track & Field 
  • Georgia Gould - Cycling 
  • Adrienne Lyle - Equestrian 
  • Ruthie Matthes - Cycling 
  • Debbie McDonald - Equestrian 
  • Greg Randolph - Cycling 
  • Chris Spelius - Kayaking
  • Dara Torres - Swimming 

You'll also find commemorative pins from various Olympic games in the exhibit—on loan from collector Chuck Jones.

Summer Games | Local Heroes also leads us into the Library's annual open house event, Book around the Block! Thursday, August 15, 2024. Bring the whole family to enjoy events with Olympic themes at the Library, Wood River Museum, and Gold Mine Thrift and Consign. We're going to "Book around the Block" for literacy, history, shopping, community, food, and fun, with activities for all ages.
