Book around the Block! In-Person

Join us for a summer open house at The Community Library, Gold Mine Thrift, Gold Mine Consign, and the Wood River Museum of History and Culture. We're going to "book around the block" for literacy, history, shopping, community, food and fun, with activities for all ages, including:  

  • An Olympic Mystery: Explore the new “Summer Games | Local Heroes” exhibit while answering fun trivia questions. Each correct answer gives you the chance to win awesome prizes, including gift certificates to the Gold Mine Thrift store. The first fifty participants will also be gifted an authentic collectors’ pin from a real Olympic Games.  

  • Bites & Beverages:  

  • FREE delectables for kids and adults from Sun Valley Company  

  • Taco Truck: FREE tacos from Taqueria al Pastor  

  • Pizza: FREE pizza from Smokey Mountain Pizza 

  • Ice Cream: FREE ice cream from Mountain High Creamery  

  • Libations: Road Bars 

  • Book Giveaway: Add to your own library with select titles from our overflow collection  

  • Children’s Fun: Try out the book-themed Lawn Olympics, Magna-Tiles®, create your own medal in the Medal Craft on the Donaldson Robb Family Lawn, and make a bookmark the Bloom Truck Bookmobile.   

  • Foyer Exhibit: Summer Games | Local Heroes: The new exhibit includes an authentic Olympic torch from the Center for Regional History’s collection, one of Muffy Davis’s gold medals, the road bike ridden by Greg Randolph at the 1996 Atlanta Games, and many more artifacts and stories from the eleven Summer Olympians featured in the exhibit. 

  • The Gold Mine: FREE bites from Rocky Mountain Pizza! Students also get a 10% Back-to-School discount on Thrift merchandise with student ID.  

  • Hunt through History: Travel through time while you scour the Library, Wood River Museum, and Gold Mine Stores for fun facts and special items. Everyone gets a prize...you might even win a $100 Gold Mine gift card or other great gift!  

  • Local Author Showcase: Get the opportunity to hear from and explore the various books and stories of self-published Sun Valley-based authors:

  • Magic: Catch the act of professional magician Luis Alberto Lecanda as he dazzles and delights with tricks and illusions.

  •  Mountain High Creamery: Beat the heat with FREE ice cream from the newly established creamery, “serving up joy, one cone at a time.”  

  • Music on the Cimino Plaza with D.J. Blind Willie  

  • Time Warp Photo Booth: Strike gold and have your picture taken at the Wood River Museum. Pose in front of the green screen with the miners from the North Star Mine in the early 1900s.   

  • Wood River Museum: Peruse the interactive exhibits; take a selfie on a vintage ski lift chair from Dollar Mountain; explore the Cabinet of Wonders to see if you can find all 25 hidden artifacts; and purchase special memorabilia in the Gift Shop.
