SUMMARY:Restoring the Dignity of Our Rivers
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Colin Thorne\, Emeritus Professor and Chair of
Physical Geography at the University of Nottingham\, UK\, as he explores
the concept of dignity - defined as the innate right to be valued - and
shares how rivers hold value beyond their economic worth\, using examples
from across the globe. This exploration will get us thinking about our own
watershed\, and whether its rivers and riverscapes are treated with
dignity. Dr. Thorne will also be joined by past speaker Dr. Patrick
Edwards\, as they take a hyper-localized lens at measuring restoration
success\, on a stream in Ketchum’s backyard.\n\nThis program will be
livestreamed and available to watch later. Click here to watch
online.\n\nIn partnership with the Wood River Land Trust\, the 2025
“Think Globally\, Act Locally” Speaker Series is dedicated to fostering
community action in response to global and regional environmental
challenges. This year’s series brings together renowned experts for a
trio of events to explore how our local actions contribute to broader
global conservation efforts. Each presentation will feature insights from
respected professionals\, offering perspectives on landscape-scale
 conservation\, river restoration\, and community-based solutions for
preserving the unique qualities of the Wood River Valley. \n\nLecture
starts promptly at 5:30 PM. Join the Land Trust for a casual reception
following the lecture at Scout Wine & Cheese in Ketchum. Enjoy light snacks
and beverages while chatting more in depth with Drs. Thorne & Edwards.
\n\nJoin us for series events on January 15\, February 19\, and March 11.
