Community Conversation: Roe v. Wade

Community Conversation: Roe v. Wade In-Person

On May 2nd, 2022, Politico was given a leaked draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito, implying that the United States Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark decision that ruled that a state law that banned abortion was unconstitutional. On June 24th, 2022, Roe v. Wade was officially overturned by the Supreme Court. The decision is heated, political, and personal, and there is a need for spaces in which to discuss this event. Libraries can provide such a space.

On Thursday, August 11th at 5:00 p.m. The Community Library welcomes ALL for a discussion in regards to abortion, specifically on the recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The discussion will have the purpose of providing a safe environment for sharing views and having discussion in a respectful manner with fellow community members.

This discussion will be led by The Community Library Summer Programs Intern, Diana Sabrina Muñoz. Diana is currently attending The College of Idaho where she studies political economy and sociology along with a pre-law specialty. Advance registration is requested.

Participants are asked to read two recent articles, of differing opinions, for the discussion:

"It's Time to Rage" a guest essay in the New York Times by Roxane Gay, whose writing is known for its reflective exploration of feminism and social criticism; and

"The Pro-life Movement’s Work Is Just Beginning" by David French, senior editor of The Dispatch and a columnist for The Atlantic who is known as a conservative traditional Christian.

If you are unable to access either article, please email mwilliams@comlib.org for a PDF copy.
