Film Screening: "The Kite Runner" In-Person
In conjunction with Banned Books (October 4-10) Week and the October 7 Book Club, the Library is screening the film, The Kite Runner, which is based on the book by Khaled Hosseini. (Popcorn provided!)
The Kite Runner is frequently challenged and sometimes banned in the United States, for sexually explicit content (specifically sexual violence/rape), profanity, and accusations that it is unsuited to age groups or promotes Islam.
About the book: The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father's servant, caught in the tragic sweep of history, The Kite Runner transports readers to Afghanistan at a tense and crucial moment of change and destruction. A powerful story of friendship, it is also about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons--their love, their sacrifices, their lies.
