Winter Read Film: "Mary Shelley" (2017) In-Person
A Winter Read film screening, celebrating our 2026 community-wide read of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and the many creations it has inspired over two hundred years. Join us throughout February for films, speakers, and discussions.
In this moody historical drama, teenage Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin (Elle Fanning) begins a passionate and scandalous affair with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (Douglas Booth), defying her family and society in pursuit of love and literary ambition. Amid heartbreak, loss, and exile, Mary channels her grief into the creation of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, birthing a novel that will outlive them all.
