TV Discussion Group: "The Lowdown"

TV Discussion Group: "The Lowdown" In-Person

The TV Discussion Group is a place where TV obsessives and skeptics gather to dissect one season of a prestige drama. This winter, the group will analyze season one of “The Lowdown,” much as a book group critiques a novel. The 8-episode series is an Oklahoma neo-noir packed with what we expect a good noir to have. And more – a cast of characters that range from nefarious to heroic, a sense of place we haven’t encountered before, or at least not this way. Yes, there’s a central conspiracy for citizen/journalist Ethan Hawke to unravel, but that doesn’t get in the way of the show’s humor or its confidence in its anti-formulaic storytelling rhythm.

Ketchum resident Mimi Avins, who covered pop culture in her years as a staff writer for The Los Angeles Times, will lead the discussion.

Each session will explore two episodes of the series. Participants are asked to not watch ahead. Advanced registration is requested. Meeting on Tuesdays, January 9 through February 3 (but skipping Jan. 20).
