Book Club: "Twist" In-Person
The Community Library Book Club is hosted the first Wednesday of every other month and led by a diverse range of library staff. Books cover all genres from new fiction to classics to nonfiction, young adult, graphic novels, and everything in between.
This month's pick is Twist, a 2025 novel by Colum McCann about an Irish journalist, Anthony Fennell, who joins a crew repairing deep-sea fiber-optic cables, exploring themes of connection, isolation, and the hidden labor behind the digital world. The story follows Fennell as he documents the work of a mysterious, skilled free-diver named John Conway, whose life becomes entangled with a South African actress, Zanele, and whose own story is revealed through the journalist’s investigation. The novel is a modern take on Heart of Darkness, using the physical act of repairing broken cables to reflect the brokenness in the characters’ lives and the world. Find it in our collection here.
The discussion will be led by Director of Library Operations Pam Parker.
