"Sun Valley Serenade" Film Screening

"Sun Valley Serenade" Film Screening In-Person

Following the Friedl documentary on November 12 and I Met Him in Paris on November 19, we'll wrap up our Sun Valley history films with the classic Sun Valley Serenade. While Sun Valley Serenade is the most well-known film due to the soundtrack with the debut of the song "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "It Happened in Sun Valley", the majority of the movie was filmed on a Hollywood sound stage.

Sun Valley Serenade stars Sonja Henie, John Payne, Glenn Miller, Milton Berle, and Lynn Bari. It features the Glenn Miller Orchestra as well as dancing by the Nicholas Brothers. It also features Dorothy Dandridge, who performed "Chattanooga Choo Choo", which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996, and was awarded the first Gold Record for sales of 1.2 million. Studio 20th Century Fox re-released the film in 1946 and in 1954 to tie-in with the biopic The Glenn Miller Story.
