"Hero Redefined" with Doug Levy and Gabriele Andersen-Schiess In-Person
In Hero Redefined: Profiles of Olympic Athletes Under the Radar, author Doug Levy has chronicled the stories of 13 Olympic Games athletes spanning six different continents, demonstrating for readers that true heroism goes beyond the medal stand.
One chapter of the book focuses on Gabriele Andersen-Schiess, a long-time Wood River Valley local who competed in the Women’s Marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles for her native Switzerland.
Doug’s book also showcases two Olympic venues, profiling the leaders who launched a longshot-but-successful bid to bring the 1960 Winter Games to Squaw Valley, as well as the former luge coach who spearheaded the restoration of a luge and bobsled track created for the 1984 Winter Games but ravaged by years of war and bloodshed. The chapters in Hero Redefined are uplifting and inspiring for readers and show that true heroism and shining examples of the Olympic spirit can be found in many places.
Doug and Gabriele will join us to discuss the book, Gabriele's story, and the ways in which Olympic athletes, and others throughout our society, display heroism in unsung ways.
Registration recommended to join us in person.
