Beginning Quilt Class

Beginning Quilt Class In-Person

Quilting is a creative exploration providing an opportunity to study the history, patterns, techniques, color theory, and production of a quilt. Whether a quilt is a gift, a family heirloom or a philanthropic donation, quilts connect families and communities.

This class will be led by members of the 5 Bee Quilters Guild, established in 2012, a thriving Guild of quiltmakers sharing their passion for quilting in partnership with The Community Library through this Beginning Quilt Class offering.

During the six class sessions, a 57” x 57” quilt sampler will be taught in a welcoming classroom environment with several Guild members supporting the process. The quilt sampler instructors are Jane Acomb and Nicole Snyder, each with more than 28 years of experience creating quilts.

The class includes instructions for how to utilize quilt making tools, how to sew a quarter inch seam, the anatomy of a quilt, fabric characteristics, fabric cutting and piecing techniques, how to read a pattern, and how to make the class sampler quilt.

The class is open to adults and high school students. Pre-registration for the entire series is required, as well as a list of basic supplies. The estimated cost of the supplies is $150-$175 retail. Students may also contact Jane Ulrich of the 5 Bee Quilters Guild to set up an appointment to "shop" donated fabrics. More information about this is available in the class supplies list.  During the class, students will be able to borrow cutting mats, rotary cutters, and rulers. The class supplies list is available below on the LibCal webpage. Sewing machines are also available to borrow.

In advance of the class, Nicole Snyder from the 5 Bee Quilt Guild, will reach out to discuss any questions about the course and supplies.

Note for those who register: On Saturday, April 20th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, the instructors will be at the Fabric Granary in Hailey and will be available to help students select supplies and fabric. A reminder about this opportunity will be sent to those who register.
