"A New Winter" with Sofia Jaramillo

"A New Winter" with Sofia Jaramillo In-Person

Sofía Jaramillo discusses her current project, "A New Winter," which aims to challenge the stereotypes in winter sports culture by reimaging historic ski images. As this in an in-progress project, Sofia will share a preview of her work and discuss her artistic process. To recreate these historic images, Sofia has worked with the Jeanne Rodger Lane Center for Regional History here at the Library to select photos and find historically accurate props and clothing from our collection.

Born in the Wood River Valley, Jaramillo is an accomplished photographer and film director who has worked for media outlets such as The New York Times, National Geographic, and The Guardian. Her work focuses on uplifting and telling the stories of BIPOC in outdoor spaces.

This talk is presented in partnership with the Sun Valley Museum of Art, who are sponsoring "A New Winter" and will be exhibiting this project in March 2025. Immediately following this talk, continue the conversation at a reception at the Wood River Museum.
