TV Discussion Group

TV Discussion Group In-Person

Ever wish you were in a book club, and whether you might be if you weren't spending so much time watching addictive TV shows? The TV Discussion Group is a place where television obsessives and skeptics gather to dissect and debate one season of a prestige series, analyzing it much in the way a book club critiques a novel.

Beginning February 28th the focus will be on Season 5 of Fargo. Viewing of the first four seasons is not required. Fargo, which premiered in 2014, is an anthology series. Each season is set in a different era and features a new cast of characters. Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1996 Academy Award-winning darkly comedic crime thriller spawned these installments, which have hopscotched across time, points of view and the Upper Midwest for over a decade. What the disparate seasons share is the DNA of the brothers’ oeuvre and a focus on the struggle between decency and primordial evil.

Ketchum resident Mimi Avins, who covered pop culture in her years as a staff writer for The Los Angeles Times, will lead the discussion.

The group will meet weekly at the Library at 4:00 p.m. over five Wednesdays, February 28th through March 27th, and explore two episodes at each session. The first meeting will be in the Idaho Room, and the remaining weeks the group will meet in the Lecture Hall.

Participants are responsible for viewing the episodes on their own each week. Advanced registration is requested.
